Petition for March 15th
March 12, 2008 8:10 pm by Munkee_BoyThis is it folks. March 15th is fast approaching and the preparations for the march plow on despite a few red herrings. The following is a copy of a petition that we have drawn up in an effort to get enough signatures to request a public inquest into Scientology and it’s tax exempt status. This is the big one folks.
For those of you who are concerned about your name appearing if you sign the petition, we will be gathering public signatories and mixing up anon signatories amongst them, meaning your anonymity remains intact as you blend in with the general public. Few specifics are required, just names, signatures and your region. Please read this draft version of the petition and suggest as many changes as you like. All changes suggested for this weeks Media Release were added and your contribution on this would greatly benefit the final product. Now without further ado:
To the Honourable the President and Members of the Senate in Parliament assembled:
The Petition of the undersigned shows:
That the public has become aware of the human rights abuses and corporate nature of Scientology. By exhibiting this behaviour we feel that Scientology is abusing its Tax Exempt Status and the rights of Australian Citizens.
Your Petitioners ask/request that the Senate should:
- conduct a public inquiry into the practices of Scientology be undertaken to reveal the true extent of their “Fair Game” and “Disconnection” policies in Australia.
- order the ATO to Audit the Church of Scientology to show the amount of tax exempt dollars used for charitable work.
- consider that a third principle be added to the High Court definition of religion, being that a religion “must ensure the Human Rights of its practitioners (past, present and future) are not abused in any way as a result of joining, practicing, leaving the religion.

Once the final draft is completed and available for print out, how do we go about obtaining signatures? What is the legality of it? Do we need permission to stand in a shopping centre and speak to people, can we ask for the petition to be left at Service Stations or Libraries in our area? and so on.
Aus wiki said Adelraid II starts at 3PM, can this be corrected to 2PM please?
@Emerald: We need to ask people on the street directly for signatures, it is totally legal… As to whether we can stand in a shopping centre or get it left at a library or service station is up to the discretion of the business owner.
@K_Anon: I have fixed it, and added a little more information.
The last bit on the petition sounds like it should be more specific so that it says it is the religious organisation which will not be abusing the human rights of its members/exmembers. At the moment the pertition sounds to me like they are responsible for protecting you from persecution from every one. (ie a Muslim group could be declared not a religious organistation for not keeping the fundies of its members backs)
thanks much, man
