March 15th Aftermath

March 16, 2008 1:05 am by SectorX4

Thanks to all for coming today, I would go as far as to call it a “triumph” (hey you cant deny there was cake!) with a total attendance around about 200+ people at a rough count.

Anonymous gathered at Victoria Square as planned with various Scientology’s spies in attendance including one from February the 10th, bottled water was provided for 50c (Girl selling it was tax exempt otherwise It’d have been 55c) and pre-order masks were distributed.

With police in attendance and anonymous ready to go all departed on the pre-defined route at 2:20pm with no Scientology interference and many flyers handed out.

Upon arriving at Scientology’s HQ we were again filmed but unlike last time there was not a large Scientology filming presence apart from the person inside the building (ignore the man behind the curtain) with his video camera.

One reported incident involved a small group including the shirtless protester without mask and the person with the Osama costume attempting to infiltrate the Scientology building from the street behind the building, this group was immediately reported to police and they were escorted back to the side of the road. These type of trouble maskers (which are apparently known by one anonymous as having attended the same school) are not welcome and thanks goes to the quick response of both the police and anonymous.

On a brighter there are many many people to thank who brought candy, professional cameras, water, delicious moist cake, signature list against tax exemption and a portable amp of which was all provided out of their own pockets.

Keeping anons spirit up more, there were sing-alongs of Happy Birthday for Lafayette Ron Hubbard, lots of Portal theme, Rickrollin’ and this particular gem:

According to the numbers Adelaide might be the biggest raid this time and it shows with the dedication we have, thanks to everyone in attendance apart from the small group who deiced to cause trouble. For those who would like make the net protest even better but don’t know how to contribute apart from financially feel free to drop by the IRC channel.

Adelaide rocked hardcore. Seriously. Such a great turn out in such awful weather. Bloody legends.

And we have Gas Mask Guy to rival Sydney’s Gas Mask Girl! Double awesome for us!

I just scanned the article regarding the protest which was in the Sunday Mail (16th March ‘08) - page 16. It’s not nearly as big as the last one and pretty much the same as the one on news.com.au but any media coverage is still a great effort.

This is the scan:

The reason why we got such a turnout?

We were oganised. Really organised.

The min-raids help as well.

Good work, AnonSa!

My arms and shoulders are still ACHING after carrying that damned water! D: A very nice stranger offered to help me carry it, right after I passed the Co$, so that was nice.

I think this time it was a woman filming, I’m sad I didn’t get to film her shoes…maybe next time.

Not surprised the media was afraid to cover us this time (esp. after Mediawatch’s coverage) but we can’t give up now.

I’m making it my mission to learn the Co$-roll lyrics for next time.

It was definitely the most productive fun I’ve ever had in 39 degree heat walking around town under a plastic mask.
I’ll be at the next one for sure. Everyone I met has such a wonderful attitude and I can’t wait to see you all again.
We must all put and effort to learn the song thou. The only lyric that was sung confidently was “..da…dada…the tale of XENU.”
Thanks for all the free candy, cakes and very special thanks to one of the suite boys who; when my friend wished aloud: “I wish I had some water”, appeared, offered her a bottle, bowed like a perfect gentleman, and then disappeared into the crowd.

We are both terribly besotted with you. <

Yeah, it was such a great day. I’m sad to have missed the first one, but this has to have been even more kickbutt than the first. Aw, I’m right at the end of this video shouting, “BEST SONG EVER”, too! That’s me! On the internet!

Thanks to everyone for being so awesome and getting that song stuck in everyone’s head for the next decade and a half. It was such a buzz to be among everyone. As I was saying to my friend who was there… it was like when you go to a party where you no no one at all, but instead of standing there like an awkward div, you’re just going up to people and chatting like you’ve known each other forever; “I LOVE YOU!” There was such a fun, supportive atmosphere.

And god, thank you for wearing those spiffy suits. You guys were brave in that heat. =) Especially, yeh, the one that offered me his waterbottle - you, sir, are a true gentleman. With good non-tastes in cults.

And thanks for giving my mask back, dude who borrowed the green fabric thingy from Ikea that looked like a dinosaur for five-year-olds.

Cannot wait for the next one.

That was just a fantastic raid guys. Such an epic result, more than made up for my having broke the head clean off my guitar, when the strap slipped off its hook and let it plummet to the pavement clipping the bottom step of the statue on the way. All the people I met there were wonderful. A big hi to the folks who I had drinks with after the raid at the Rosemont.

Didn’t know there were lollies as I hung mostly up on the KW. street corner handing out fliers. I did have some cake though and I ate it too (who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too?).

Everybody just give yourselves a big pat on the back, you deserve it. I can’t wait for the next raid now.
