March 15th News Media Release

March 10, 2008 9:03 pm by Munkee_Boy

We here at AnonSA have taken the time to produce a short media release that will be sent to media outlets including radio, television and print media. This document is designed to be short, balanced and concise and is meant to inform he public about what to expect on March 15th. A further media release is being planned as a follow up after March 15th as an answer to the claims that we are “Religious Bigots” and “Cyber Terrorists”.

We invite you to comment regarding anything you think we have left out, any innacuracies or any general edits to the script. It is due to be sent out this Wednesday 12th March 2008, so please get your changes and edits in befor then. A final copy will be reposted in this article once we have knocked it into shape. Now with out further ado, here is the first draft media release:

Second Scientology Protest Scheduled for March 15th

A second protest directed at the Church of Scientology has been scheduled for this Saturday, March 15th. Australia’s capital cities, and other major cities around the world, will be greeted by the masked collective known as Anonymous marching the streets.

Adelaide-based Anonymous will be meeting at 2pm in Victoria Square before marching on a loop around the city and finishing up at the Church of Scientology in Waymouth St. Protest Organisers continue to stress that this is to be a peaceful rally and anyone wearing a mask who causes trouble will be separated and pointed out to authorities.

Anonymous are not opposed to the beliefs of Scientologists but are protesting to make people aware of the human rights abuses perpetrated by Scientology and the tax exempt status Scientology holds in Australia. All public and media are invited to attend the rally and are encouraged to wear a mask.

For further information go to www.anonsa.org or direct any queries to media@anonsa.org.

Thankyou.

(This has now been updated and is the final version.)

Short, shap and shiney! You may want to add “Church of” to the first sentance.

I will start with obviously the first paragraph. Wording is good, although you might want to choose a less cocky sounding word than flooded.

The third paragraph doesnt seem to fit. It also makes us sound slightly paranoid. I would advise removing it or rewording it to fit better with the rest of the text. If it were placed after what is now the fourth paragraph it may fit a bit better because the concept of masks has been introduced. However if it were there it would require a follow up paragraph as a closer.

Much Lulz

‘A second Scientology Protest’ should be changed to ‘A second protest directed at the Church of Scientology’. just to make it clear from the get-go that we are, in fact, against the church. Just a thought.

Protestors say that they are not against the beliefs of Scientologists but

Change to “Anonymous protestors are not against…

anon1138- the word ‘against’ should not be used at all, it is too lumpy.

@AnonymouseSmith: opposed?

I don’t like the fact the issue of tax is shown first and the human rights abuse is second.

Getting the tax exemption status removed is a major goal.. but we’re protesting against the churches illegal activities.

apart from that – I like it :)

Thankyou for your input. The version in this post has been updated with all of your ideas being implemented. Please re-read it and continue to help me fine tune it :)

I’d hyphenate “Adelaide-based Anonymous”. And put an “and” between “city” and “finishing” here: ‘…before marching on a loop around the city /and/ finishing up at the Church…’

Other than that, I think it’s fine. Succinct, but gets everything across. Good work.

No need to capitalise Human Rights Abuses and Tax Exempt Status, these words carry plenty of power and weight without bending grammatical rules (yes, I’m a GN). Otherwise an excellent letter, clear and to the point. You can has several kudos and internetses.

I have a friend who works for Today Tonight’s production dept. Let me know if you need anything, interviews set up that sort of thing and I’ll see what I can do. Can’t promise anything but I can definitely at least make enquiries.

@emerald > Cheers will be faxing it through to them today, this is more of an invite to the media to come along and give them the opportunity to inform the public prior to the event. Will keep that in mind for if and when we need to get something to them directly (which shouldn’t be too far off actually).
