April 12th Details
April 10, 2008 11:11 am by SirFluffingtonADWe are now coming into the final strech for the April 12th Protest, here are all the details.
Location: Victoria Square (northern side)
Time/Date: April 12th 2pm to ~4.30pm
What to bring:
- A good and fun attitude
- A mask or some other way to cover your face
- Cheap masks can be found at Spotlight/GoLo or any costume store
- Alternatively you can become a Shirt Ninja for the day
- A sign/placard (or a few)
- Plenty of Water/Cordial etc.
- Sunscreen/Hat (just in case)
- Some knowledge of Scientology and the purpose of this protest
- It would be really great if everyone was to wear a suit, dress pants and a tie - but this is not a requirement
What not to bring:
- Drugs/Alcohol (don’t even think about coming to the protest drunk/high, your presence will not welcome if you do)
- A negative or violent attitude
- Weapons
Like March 15th, we will be marching around the city, following the same route:
- Start off at Victoria Square
- Walk down King William Street
- Turn Right onto North Terrace
- Walk down North Terrace and turn Right onto Pultney Street
- Walk up Pultney Street where a small group of about 20 will head down Rundle Mall (only people in suits)
- The rest will continue past Rundle Mall and turn right onto Grenfell Street
- Head to Waymouth Street and stop out the front of The Church of Scientology building.
This time, we do not have a permit or insurance to protest - this is due to Scientologys successful efforts to stop us from getting a permit last time around and the costs associated with insurance, but the police and council have been contacted regarding this and they are fine with our actions. However, for some unknown reason the council has explicitly requested that we do not hand out flyers citing issues of littering - I did question them about this and they would not turn on their decision.
There is a permit available for distribution of literature, maybe some anon with cash could get them separate of the protest itself to circumvent this decision. I would also like to make it known that if anon do distribute flyers this protest, they will be acting as an individual and the organisers or the group ‘Anonymous’ can not be held accountable for the actions of any individual.
I would request that everyone on the protest please:
- CLEAN up any and all rubbish left by yourself or any other Anon
- KEEP to the side walk - do not crowd onto the road
- OBEY all traffic laws and regulations - don’t block or stall any road traffic
- MOVE out the way to allow any member of the public free access to the side walk
- STAY on the opposite side of the road to the Scientology building - their biggest concerns were the safety of their younger church members

I’ve looked into it (read: logged a form). Hopefully we’ll get one.
Had a look at the conditions for the DoL permit… I’ve left in the ones that could be a problem for us
Conditions
3. The activity shall be conducted for a single period of no longer than two hours in a day and no more than two people can be grouped at the same location.
5. It is the responsibility of the preacher/distributor to ensure that any form of literature dropped in the area is picked up and the area is left in a neat and tidy condition.
6. Preachers/distributors must not harass, harangue, accost or approach any member of the public.
(Not so much, but knowing CoS anythings possible)
7. Preaching and literature distribution is not permitted in the Rundle Mall precinct or the side streets entering/exiting Rundle Mall without specific permission.
8. Amplification of sermon/religious address is not permitted anywhere within the precinct of Adelaide City Council.
10. Any complaints received regarding this activity will be addressed by Adelaide City Council and may jeopardize this permit or the issuing of further permits.
12. The distributors must carry with them a copy of the permit and show it to Council and/or Police Officers on demand.
15. The permitted activity is confined to the immediate vicinity of the permitted location.
16. This permit gives permission for the permit holder and is not transferable to any other person or organisation.
17. Upon the expiry of this permit, the activity shall cease. If it is desired to continue the activity a new application needs to be lodged with Council and a new permit obtained. A fee may apply for the newly obtained permit.
Failure to comply with any of these conditions could result in the permit being revoked, and jeopardise the issue of future permits.
@K_Anon: it won’t be a ‘We.’ The permit will likely only be valid for the person who submitted it
Doesn’t matter, they just called me and denied a permit.
Maybe we can dodge this by having “For more info, come ask us for a flyer” signs? This way we are not distributing these to those who do not actively approach us, and therefore not littering/harassing passersby with information they don’t want?
Do you think they would be more willing to issue a permit to an employee of the city council?
Read this:
Locations
Distribution of Literature is not permitted without specific permission in these locations;
Outside significant buildings (eg. Parliament House, Town Hall)
Rundle Mall and the side streets entering the Mall precinct.
—
Does this mean everything that is not a side street entering the Mall (ie Victoria Square, North Terrace, King William, etc) is (pardon the pun) fair game?
*thinks*
Handing over an Anonymous business card could go around this? After all how many THOUSDANDS of business cards exchange hands in Adelaide daily?
won’t be raiding, but good luck.
I may come and visit and might visit for drinks after raid.
Hmm… I think the business card idea may work… Someone would need to find out if business cards are considered literature or not though
A fair design would be the Anon logo, “Google ‘Disconnection’” and a link to AnonSA.
I’m applying for a Preacher’s Permit.
Is there point me attending the raid for only an hour, do you think? ^^
There’s always a point attending the raid!
Going back to distribution of stuff:
Council permits are for distribution of PAMPHLETS and free samples for business promotion. Business cards could sneak past under that somewhat technically I suppose. There’s other stuff that can be distributed. Anyone got access to a heap of balloons, permanent textas, ribbon and helium?

>>Idea Rant:
Without literature we need to push our messages are STRONGLY and CLEARLY as possible in a limited time frame.
This means we should optimise our use of SIGNS, PLACARDS and TALKING TO PEOPLE!
Multiple SIGNS/PLACARDS strongly pushing weblinks such as
ExScientologyKids and xenu .net would be good. (?)
Can someone make up some spares of these?
Heck I may do so myself for the masses..
Also, photo ops would be great (that really immortalises us!)
But make sure were’ holding signs up too =)
***Also can we hand out “coupons”? (I like Anon D’s idea.)
E.g. one that is the reverse of a stress test.
“Hand in this coupon for one free enturbulation test!
New A-meter technology can tell if you were a scientologist in a former life!”
P.S. how about adding a keep S.A. beautiful sign / reminder on the reverse of all propaganda help out? Perhaps its too late now - but surely it can help clean up the problem for next time? (no pun intended..)
@ Admin: Damn good job by the way!
Two more suggestions:
1) Pushing a reminder / refresher to the “how to protest” thing may be good”
2) It would be good for you to post what the 3 or 5 core messages we want to push are. E.g. simply for coaching anonymous on what to say to the public. (E.g With any spiel it helps if we practice it. Not to push too formulaic an approach.. but it would be good if you can summarise / link reading material on the core focus to give some centre of gravity to what we aim to communicate.
Also to focus our views.. / sharpen our “facts” and remind the anon masses what were on about.
P.S. Sorry for my large posts…
Not legal adv, yadda yadda:

“2. ACTIVITIES REQUIRING PERMISSION
No person shall without permission on any road:-
…
2.8 Distribute
give out or distribute to any bystander or passer-by any handbill, book,
printed matter, provided that this restriction shall not apply to any handbill
given out or distributed by or with the authority of a candidate during
Federal, State or Local Government Election or to a handbill or leaflet
distributed during the course and for the purpose of a Referendum;”
Additional:
Business card, coupon etc may fall into this criteria.
However:
My interpretation of the above By Law would be that NON-printed matter (ie the roses idea from the last raid) is permitted to be distributed. On the council page massive 85 page PDF states free samples *for business* need to be distributed with a permit, however the roses etc are obviously not for a business purposes.
Further to the By Law:
So, who wants to stand as a candidate at the next election and officially endorse the flyers lol
i agree we need lots of ‘ask me about….’ type of signs and lots of talking to ppl. URLs on all signs - and we gotta walk SLOWLY 2!
If u r not comfortable answering Qs from the public, perhaps take some ‘cheat sheets’ with u, that u can refer to. perhaps even a flyer, but dont distribute it, just read facts from it if u can’t remember it off the top of yr head? or cards with notes on them, like u use for a speech.
if u r stuck for words, please refer Joe Q Public to another anonymous member who can answer their Q :)
Hmm… Im not sure if this would work or not, but Im thinking that we may be able to avoid the issue if we only let people with “Ask me about…” signs hand out flyers/cards/whatever. Give it to them so they can find out more information
I’ll most likely still hand stuff out (at my own risk)
but will only give people “flyers” if they ask for more info, also have some info data dvds so everything is easy for joe public to find.
we still have the youfoundthecard.com business size cards
Remember obey any directions from the friendly police officers keep them on our side.
Other than police the only people you have to show ID to if they ask is Adelaide Council. If someone asks for your ID (or wants you to remove mask etc) ask them to show proof they are from Adelaide Council first and/or ask a police officer for advise.
If anyone is bored and wants to put together a cheat sheet type thing that mrdogfud suggests it would be awesome.
I know i’m hopeless at remembering things like specific names and dates and i’m sure others are too.
I’ll be there, bringing at least one person with me, really looking forward to it! I’m not so good with being asked questions but even if people can refer members of the public to websites and just exlain what “disconnection” is it’ll be good.
^Me
Well I thought today was a quality shindig with signs in particular! Good job!
Pity we didn’t have as many anon there .. ?
It would be good to maybe get some feedback
e.g. Who didn’t attend and why?
-to close to previous march?
-being put off by the suit direction?
As for Mr DogFud and Anonymous’s comments:
It would be good to invest some time in the future to cheat sheets, or a summary page or something so were all coherent etc..
On the Anon Australia website (below)
http://anon.forevervoyaging.org.au/
if you scroll down to the project chanology section there are 20 questions that every anon should know. It would be good to hear possible suggestions / answers for those..
Raid + Daft Punk = epic epic win

i am so tired from dancing!
sucha gr8 day - awesome response from the public. so much encouragement and we even had the security guards laughing at the CoS!!
FYI guys, I can confirm that the “white shirted man” leaning against the building in the pic anon_adelaide_0381.jpg is actually an editor for the unisa student magazine “Entropy.” Adelaide is small so I kinda know who he is.. I doubt he is a scilon. (But then again…)
Great work guys!
Don’t cut these clowns any slack-a once a month protest with mini raids in between is a great way to keep the pressure on.
I couldn’t make it due to a family gig-oh the irony! But was there in spirit!
BTW- theres lots of interesting info on the Cult of $cientology @ wikileaks.org including the following ;

…pearls of wisdom straight from the rum-and-downers sodden mind of Ron the Con himself!! XD
