Hello Anonymous. :)
Just a quick question for those of you who are still in high-school and/or those of you who use the internet in places with internet filtering - especially if it's N2H2 (Bess/Smart-filter).
Are you finding Anonymous-related websites are blocked at your schools? Because at my school http://www.anonsa.org, http://www.xenu.net and http://www.enturbulation.org are blocked under “Custom block list”, which I find to be simply terrible.
I have emailed the Sysadmin about it, and have yet to receive a response. I'm just wondering how far-spread this is, i.e is it only my school; or is happening elsewhere?
Thanks for your attention, and best of luck.
All the best,
Alex.

Thats actually not suprising, well, im more suprised i haven't heard something like this earlier, when i was at school i knew how to by-pass the schools security; you might want to just email them like you did with some sort of argument based on the fact they are preventing you from learning about a different culture/religion/cult etc, ifyou want to get specific that is. I don't know lol.
Goodluck with it.

Update:
Sent a lengthy and well-worded email to both the network administrator, as well as a CC copy to the principal outlining my argument as to why the site(s) should be unblocked, and the result is/was that my computing account is to be suspended for 2 weeks due to “infringment of I.T policy” this isn't offically in correlation to the email, but it is obvious that is why they did it. I should note, at this point, that there are Scientologists amongst my school's teaching/administration staff whom I have (in the past) had disagreements with, but that's a side-issue.
Obviously, for anonymity purposes, I do not want to tell you what school I attend. Only that it is a school within the inner-city of Adelaide. My question (that is unworthy of a new thread), is: do I cop it sweet and keep my mouth shut, or should I alert the masses and contest what happened? The punishment in itself is no big deal, 'tis why man invented laptops, but I feel somewhat disturbed from a moral standpoint.
Thoughts?

Anonymous can confirm, that due to the usage and nature of the N2H2 system (Bess/Smart-filter):
“Custom block list” means that it yes, indeed it is custom, and relates only to the school.
you can rest assured that the School itself has blocked it, not the education department.
likely your IT department has been asked to, or have instigated it themselves, this would not be a 'system-wide' setting.

Well, personally i wouldn't take such crap like that at school, but considering the circumstances i would possibly just stay quiet, especially if they know who you are, i wouldnt want them on my back. Also depending on the school there is not a lot that can be done, but when i was at school; the school i was at would make it very easy for me to get my views across and heard. You probably wouldn't want to get personally involved with scientologists in a school envrionment over an issue that isn't really (in my mind) that BIG of a deal.
Goodluck with it,

I agree with anon1919 in that don't think that you should be risking anything that would equal harassment within your own personal life. There will plenty more opportunities to do more to reduce the cults influence then this one. You don't have to pursue every one.
However, I do believe that you have EVERY right to:
a) Inquire as to what it is that you did that was infringement of their IT policy so as to know best how you, and other classmates can avoid it in future.
b) Request what the principal and Admin's opinions are regarding your letter, again so that you, and fellow students (of whom you very well are asking on behalf of) can better understand the schools I.T. policy.
c) A school is obliged I believe to offer certain priveleges to their students within limits. They are accountable to you and your parents if they fail to deliver. In this instance if they have removed your privileges for 2 weeks, you have every right to take it further and ensure that it 'firstly' had nothing to do with your letter.
If so, how so? What did you do wrong being a concerned student? How would they have preffered you handled such a query?
'Secondly' what is the schools opinion and why? They do have to justify the reason they are limiting your access, and the reasons HAD BETTER BE ONES THAT THEY ARE COMFORTABLE WITH STATING PUBLICLY AND BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR!
>>>> I WOULD DEFINTELY DO THIS AT THE BARE MINIMUM: I'd say, you clearly are concerned in avoiding any I.T. breaches, you have every intention infollowing IT rules. You'd like to know what you did to cause you to lose access, and whilst your respect the schools decisions to ban / restrict certain sites - it did surprised you (and other students discussed the matter with) that those were removed and were simply curious why?
Again, based upon concerns of Scilon overlords bodysnatching your highschool teachers, I wouldn't push it further than this unless you felt comfortable. Heck they can't stop you from telling all the kids at school.. but then again - you don't want a phonecall from some dude asking your mum about a doco as with Psychedeas.. Hmmm..

can u access scilon pages?? argue that as educators, it is their duty to teach u about both sides of the coin.
how can u learn about this issue, without acess to info on both sides? and what is the motivation behind denying knowledge from students?

The corruption at your school is a real shame. This one offence is tolerable (you don't need to access anon stuff at school), and kicking up a fuss is not worth the trouble it would bring in this case. It was a bit reckless to be accessing anon sites knowing that scions were in the administration anyway.

this is why internet access on your phone or via 3g is important people. :D
it's UNMONITORED (apart from your ISP) and UNFILTERED (depending on your isp).
decentralisation.
it's what we're about :D
*affixes tinfoil hat*
let it drop - but not without questioning a little - don't push it.
they'll be watching you now, they were before, now they just had to do something because you brought it to their attention.
either that, or they were ignorant, have asked the teacher in question, and believed them.
I pretty much agree with thetans comments, but please, when you're doing it - do try to hold back that sense of indignance when conversing, and be very friendly.
I realise it's hard to hold back the RAAAAAAAGE, but trust me, it's worth it.
there's nothing more unstoppable than a cool, calm, informed and collected foe.
be it.

if you were trying to DDoS a Scientology site, from within your school's network; i could understand the heavy handed response… but, let's assume you were one of the thousands of students who read one of the MANY national (and international) press stories where OUR Education Minister reportedly called Scientologists “bastards” and indicated their tax-exemption staus was questionable.
u wanna know more about it; why were the Minister's comments considered so controversial? so u decide to use your school's resources to further educate yourself on the matter. you look up the media stories, you look up the people/organisations mentioned in the media stories. you try and LEARN about the whole thing…
is this not RESEARCH!!? EDUCATION!? is this not LEGIT!?
like or not, it was the Minister for Education herself that has raised this issue for a lot of people. students shouldn't be punished simply for looking into the issues the Minister herself has raised.
*i'd love to hear the opinion of any1 who works in the education field*

Another update:
Spoke to the school (principal) today, asking them for an offical statement/reason etc. The offical reasoning behind the disabling of the account was:
“Using school computers and/or internet connection to send threatening emails, and for *attempting* to circumvent network security.”
This is perplexing me immensely. The punishment in itself is no big deal, but the illogicality behind it is. The general gist of the email I sent was asking them why the sites were blocked, and asking them to consider unblocking them. The email was concise and polite. Nothing that could be deemed 'threatening' by any means.
The situation continues to become even more mysterious, as my principal indicated that if 'it' happened again, then more serious punishments would be coming my way. And that's more-or-less a quote of what they said.
I'm going to cop it sweet, for now. Do nothing, keep my nose clean, etc. But wtf? I knew Scientologists were bastards, but do they go to these extremes just for someone trying to access a website? They don't know I'm an activist, they don't know my level of involvement with Anonymous. Surely they wouldn't be /that/ worried about one dumb kid trying to find out when the next protest is? :P
Oh well, I'll keep you all posted.

Without knowing the contents of the email which I would NOT reccomend you disclose, I can't say whether it could be percieved as threatening or not. It could be subjective.
Something completely obvious we've missed, What do your parents think about all this? Are they in favour of your actions? If they are, you should bring them on board, if they're any good they'd be outraged. and one thing principals have to deal with is outraged parents on a daily basis.
You're dealing with emotional people here, you've called them on their shit and because they've got the power, they want to DO SOMETHING so you DON'T DO IT AGAIN.
It is rather dissapointing that you've actually talked to them about their OFFICIAL rules and OFFICIAL policy, through an OFFICIAL method and they've reacted like you just did something quite nasty.
Any other school students who read the forums care to post Anonymously whether they can access the sites or not? see how many schools can/can't.
also if “what” happened again? he's going to have to be a bit more specific than that. perhaps you can get your parents to ask.
if you use the 'internet'? if you try and ask about official policy again instead of what any normal student would do - try and circumvent it?

@1138;
My parents are aware of the situation. They don't particularly like me protesting, but they don't stop me from doing so. They're not opposed to it because they're sympathetic towards the CoS or anything, but they're weary of CoS litigation and so-forth.
The principal has told my parents the offical reasoning behind their actions, and I have told them my side of the story–and my parents are as bemused as I am. They don't want to rock the boat though.
What my principal meant by “if you do it again” is f I try and access the sites again, or if I call them out on it again. I'm not sure which. Those were my principal's words “if you do it again” make of that what you will..
I've never known my school to act like this in the past. I've gotten in shit before, and have questioned offical policy before without any negative ramifications, normally what happens is they bluntly state offical policy and leave it at that. As soon as Scientology is involved, they go ape-shit. The weird thing is, is that my school is a private religious (not Scientology) school. That doesn't mean the staff are religious, but the circiculum is supposed to be. There are several Scientologist teachers on staff, as stated above, but I don't see how they've managed to push their Scifag agenda on everyone else.

WTF! I assumed you were at a public school! WTF?! I assumed there was no way a private school (typically catholic) should be pushing an non catholic curriculum / agenda! Its part of the <expletive> education package for <explitive> sake! E.g. blah blah offer etc in a loving catholic environment. That is so <expletive> bs! The problem is that there is no way to push that the judgement itself is a scilon related decision… Grr!!
Look i do agree not to push it beyond this with your school for now. We know the end of level boss is a scilon… But leaving it at that is a smart call. I agree that perhaps this one isn't worth the effort nor should be high on our priorities list… It really doesn't disadvantage you / anyone else too much as its prob not ideal to be chekn sites at school anyway.. Despite the outRAAAAGGGEEEE, the fact is any anon will still be anon at home, and anyone who learns about us will still be able to come to oursite else where.
IF anything should be done, I think it should be done under another identity or by somebody else and at a later date so as not to be associated with you. In fact their probably smelling your body thetans now =) I'd say any discussion / consideration to take this further should be done off forums via PM or IRC.
I'm under the impression schools monitoring / restricting usage is a issue not just for ur school. Perhaps we should deal with this problem as a whole? Hmmm.. maybe a letter / email to the education minister (jane lomax smith) would be a good start? At least she isn't a scilon! heheheheheheh =D
Anyway good work Alex for taking it that far! It sounds easy to give advice but it takes guts to carry i out, good job ;)

I would call you admirable if you just left the situation where it was and went on with your normal life. The thing i hate most in life is unfairness and unjust behaviour, for example, the whole class gets punished because one student misbehaves. If i was in your position they would hear from me every single day, i would also get my mother involved as she works in a high profile position for the govt, closely related to education (well she did when i was at school anyway). But hey thats just me, even i find it hard to tell you to just drop it, but sometimes its the best, and im not one to just drop something quietly.
However, maybe doing some research on the subject, directly, or indirectly related the schools policy might give you an upper-hand or give you something to ask or tell them. You have the right to free speech and as long as you are in Australia no one is going to shut you down (unless of course you are violent etc). You have the right to inquire into the schools decision. The school/staff/principal could also be just saying that as a scare-tactic. Anyway, i would be pretty dam pissed off if i was you; it angers me that your parents are paying for a private school which generally means higher fees but better quality, and you get this sci-fag bullshit.

don't forget Hubbard said in his own words “there was no Christ” and claimed Christianity was simply another implant.
you're attending a private Christian school, hijacked by a small number of cultists subversively pushing an anti-Christian message via Scientology - yeah? wouldn't the parent-teacher association (if u have 1) eat that up? i mean 'Who would Jesus fairgame?'
call up Today-Tonight. u can get the story out there, without revealing yr identity on tv. it might not help u; but would help the cause and could encourage other kids getting gamed, to come forward.

If you wanted to, a letter to the board of your school and/or the administration for the diocese of your school (you say it's a private religious school, so I'm covering all bases here) outlining your concerns might be a good idea.
But only if you feel you want to. Don't feel like you have to or anything. The ball is in your court. If it were me (and I was not exactly an angel at school), I'd take it to the higher-ups, like the Education Department for public schools or the school board and/or diocese for religious private schools, the board for non-demoninational private schools.
