tl;dr – man with two swords driving a red convertible drove into the parking lot at the Celebrity Center in LA and was percieved as threatening, was shot by a Scilon guard.

Remember, the US is a law unto itself in terms of firearms. The BBC has video footage here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7745143.stm
The cops have indeed gotten involved, and investigation is still ongoing.
e: As to whether or not all Scio guards have guns, it's come as a complete surprise to everyone that there were firearms at the Celebrity Center in the hands of the guards. Raid reports haven't mentioned any guns being present before this, so something is definitely up. Who was the guy with the swords and what was his issue? Why did the guards have guns? Who was inside the CC that sword guy wanted so badly? Many questions, few answers.

tl;dr most of it, but i got the jist.
Sounds like someone from /b/ doing it for the lulz and got the party v&.
But in all seriousness now, what sort of "trained" securty guard would resort to fatally shooting a man that
a) most likely wasn't looking/acting serious
b) shoot to kill.
From my experience, all security guards are trained to injure/subdue to the assailant, as in, shoot them in the arm. So unless this man was running up to him somehow managing to swiftly wield two katana swords and running at blazing speed, the security guard was either not trained or panicked. But of course, i wouldn't expect for Co$ guards to be trained properly to deal with actual events. Moar then likely just slap a uniform on the toughest looking member give em a flashlight, walkie talkie and in this case, a gun, and position them in front of a building making sure no one except tom cruise gets in.
If CoS doesn't get some sort of severe penalty for this, the world is screwed. When was the last time you heard "Christian security officer, guarding a Catholic church killed a man wielding two swords". On that note. Religious temples or places of worship need security guards, esp in a city of Los Angeles?
Sorry for ranting, ill stop now. lol

In 1995 Germany ruled that Scientology is not a religion; and if anyone could spot a dangerous fanatical movement, before it gets out of hand, its the Germans

Latest: http://www.postchronicle.com/news/breakingnews/article_212189202.shtml
Basically, the guard who shot Epic Swords Guy was a former cop iirc but the security video has basically said he acted correctly and is innocent.
I know – here it wouldn't be the same thing at all, but ours isn't a gun culture. Getting and owning a gun here is a really difficult thing to do, especially a pistol of any sort. Long arms (rifle, shotgun) are a little easier due to farmers needing to be able to kill vermin on their property, but it's not as easy to have a gun as it is in the USA.

So that video told us.
The man was an ex scilon
"may have had mental issues" – (what a coincidence)
life threatening behaviour.
The whole case seems pretty dodgy to me, another sci pay off if you ask me.

Yeah, I gotta agree, it does stink like rotten fish left out in the sun for too long. Some of us are working on a project as to how the levels called 'The L's' fit into instigating some form of pscyhosis into the mind. Lisa McPherson did L-11 prior to the incident that led to her death; this guy also did L-11. Jason Beghe talked about it, saying only that L-11 really "fucked me up, completely fucked me up." L-11 itself looks like a shopping list for the Marquis de Sade, it's no wonder that people's minds go a bit kaplooey with it.
The guy who shot Mario was acquitted of any wrongdoing, he was a retired police officer who shot the guy to protect the other guards. Why Mario was there at that time and what he hoped to achieve is still a mystery, but as more info comes out, I'll post it. I tend to think that this sort of thing shouldn't be swept under the rug, so to speak – people need to know what's going on and why.
