In St. Louis (US), the Anons have just finished one of the most fabulous projects I've seen. St. Louis Anons Freeway road signs.

Basically, they made some big arse signs with various URLs on them and put them up on road overpasses and wire mesh fencing along major roadways. It's a great idea and would quite possibly work here, too. (Not sure of the legalities of it, though, so someone with contacts in local councils might want to check?)

If we did this here, I can think of a few spots off the top of my head.

1. The corner of Richmond Rd and Anzac Hwy, near the Royal Show. There's always signs like this on that wire fence, advertising various fairs and the like.

2. Corner of South Rd and Port Rd. There's a lot of mesh fencing there b.c of roadworks or somesuch, could be a good spot. Actually, there's bound to be loads of places along South Rd that would work.

3. Corner of South Rd and Cross Rd, near the overpass, by the train line. There's a mesh fence there that like the one near the Show grounds has signs for fairs, etc.

I figure that if it's okay for various fairs and sales and such to do it, it can't be that hard to get permission to do it as well, or, like the St. Louis Anons did, a stealth run on a weeknight at like 3am or something. Which might be the best way to go even with permission, just to minimize potential facefagging. Also, as it's getting colder, there's nothing wrong with wearing a balaclava to keep our delicate faces warm! ;P

What do you guys think?

I think it's a great idea.

I know fairs and stuff don't seek council approval, and they stay there.

So I say go for it man. :)

This is a great idea. They're really heavily hit with traffic.

If we find somewhere to hang one the intersection of Marion Road and Cross Road would be good for a sign too, it takes about ten minutes to get through that one – I'm fairly sure there's something wrong with the lights – people will be looking for something to stare at until the traffic moves…

Fliers taped to bus/tram shelters could work too.

@Anon23517 Hey good thinking! Also posters on stobey polls at intersections are done alot by other groups. Prob ok! Bus stops in burbs would be good too. I'm totally up for stealth runs. Did one recently. An Ipod, cup of coffee, and a serious amount of fliers = healthy exercise. (Although Balaclavas are apparently illegal or something! A big no-go on that one! LoL!)

@Anon1138 Are you sure? I'm a bit surprised, that's all… Also maybe it's better to simply have these particular ones advertise Anonymous's Next protest. Rather than bag Co$, there may be problems with that.

NOT GOOD SPOTS

Just as a few notes – Don't put them on trees. Thats environmentally unfriendly and public people will take them down. Same problem sort of goes for Rundle Mall, hence getting approval to put them in store windows would be better.

GOOD SPOTS

Generally the Cult congregates near it's Dianetics Mecca. So places beyond the CBD would be good. Notice boards at Shopping Centres and Advertising drums at Unis are good. These will last up much longer. Many are still up, just (covered by the next inevitable wallpaper of poster (rather than taken down.)

NEW METHODS

Started thinking about ways to avoid posters being taken down.

Have we considered getting a Pedestrian Advertising Permit to walk around rundle mall with a large sign or two advertising upcoming protests? Or possibly hiring Walk-About Signs to do it for us? This would be less complicated as they shoulder the public liability insurance. This is where funds are useful. (Again, probably can only advertise Anonymous next protest, maybe problems with criticisig another organisation on these.. may not be allowed..)

The poor-Anon's option is to walk down rundle mall with the next protest written on a T-shirt. Doesn't count as preaching/advertising so doesn't require a permit. Perfectly legal. So go buy some black shirts, and some white arts & crafts paint! The mask will draw attention on it's own! (Criticise away on these!) Get a few for this weekends mini raid!

FLIERS

Central Market, Myer Centre and the Train Station are all Central Locations with a good epicentre of people. Also they aren't subject to the same council rules as the general CBD / rundle mall. I think, that with approval from the management of these groups/areas it's ok (within constraints) to actively approach people and hand out fliers.

Go ANON's go!

gr8 ideas thetan  – would be awesome if anons could start posting pics of postering and stickering efforts. this would encourage other anons as well as give a good example of how its done right

i have seen quite a few different groups at train stations handing out flyers advertising protests (even those opposing the Transport minister!) so maybe this is an option too? not sure on the legalities of a lot of this though.

good point that thetan makes re: the mask attracts a lot of attention anyway just walking around with 2 or 3 other Anons is often enough to get ppl asking Qs – then u can hit them with flyers if they wanna know more :)

June 14 is close – the time for action is now ppl

Apparently, according to Arnie Lerma, some guys in Sydney did this in 99. They did the signs with XENU.NET on them. I'll dig up a couple of pic links of the St. Louis signs. Maybe we could organise an Anon sign making bbq in the park or something? It would probably take several of us to make them, and then those of us with cars to go out in groups of 2 or 3 and put them up at various spots.

The stickers idea is also excellent – maybe get some with ANONSA.ORG on them for general use and the monthly protest info for each month?

Piktoores!

Big signs are big

Overpass

Fence

Side wall

Sign making partay

Sydney sign from 99 and Arnie's page on it.

Freeway Blogger with tips, info and suggestions on how to do it.

I think we need more fliers simply pushing US, and becoming a part of us. E.g. we need to encourage them to participate on our site and stay informed etc.

It's uni exam time at Wayville show grounds right? Would it be good if some folks could maybe push our cause with some fliers or posters here?

That's not a bad idea, but you'd need to be careful – the profs tend to frown on paper being taken into the exam hall. I'm wondering if perhaps getting Rip It Up and/or DB magazine to do a piece wouldn't be the way to go.

Yeah good idea regarding rip it up and Db! Why not?

As for exams at Wayville. I don't mean send Anon into the exam halls, but an anon could offer fliers to students who go past, or are waiting at tables before exams. Actually that might weird out security..

Better yet! Simply put them on wind shields!!!

There will be such a HUGE turn over of student parked cars there during the next few weeks. Can any anon who will be around wayville do some flier drops?

I won't be in a position to this partricular week but maybe the next two (not cos I'm slack either ;) Trust me, I've done my share of letter box drops!

Okay,  I'll feel out Rip it Up and DB, also what about Three D radio? I know a few of the DJs there, it could be possible to do something on air if there's enough interest?

Windsheilds of cars is a good idea, it doesn't violate any litter bylaws or anything, does it?

Hmmm.. not sure.. Nothing seems to stop other groups doing it for event advertising… so I'm assuming the same.

Windshielding cars is actually illegal. there's a council fine, but that doesn't stop the majority of businesses (eg nightclubs) in town doing it, for the business they get over the fine, I guess they're willing to pay it.
