Over time I've seen a few things that have made me realise things can go wrong..
E.g. The Asyd site went down for a while due to Sydney dramas. (It's back up.)
Recently Enturb went down due to tech issues (It's forum is back up and it's on it's way.)
But what of our site? What brings up this current bout of paranoia is that the Rudd government has for some time been conceiving an Australia wide filtering scheme, which apparently goes up at the end of November for a trial run. It's intended to block 'illegal' sites etc, with the intent upon stopping porn etc. Of course it really means their censoring the whole country through the internets!
I've read mixed things – e.g. reports saying it'll incorrectly block 3000 sites a second, to reports that trial simulations on major search engines were pretty effective etc… But either way, the anon think tank has been concerned that certain sites will not be accessible! E.g. in victoria I don't believe they can access whyaretheydead.net ?
So! My querie is how do we congregate if this site goes down? (Even momentarily, for ANY reason). I'm not the most cluey on these things so I pose the question to YOU for your input now.
I recommend (a) getting use to the IRC rooms now. (b) perhaps admin can send an email to our anon emails to let us know where the next locale is springing up? or (c) we just aim to meet at each protest, 1 month from now and we prep in advance (e.g. distribute posters for the month ahead, at that raid and to each other to print / copy and poster in between =D. (d) or do we start swapping anon emails now ;)
Lets give it some thought people! I may seem a paranoid one with my alfoil hat, but its something prudent to consider! =D
